I posted “Tuesday’s Gone” on election day back in 2012 and I’m thinking this needs to become a YHT tradition.
It’s not just fitting because, ya know, elections are held on Tuesdays and stuff, but because few songs beg retrospection like “Tuesday’s Gone.” So wistful. And, really, aren’t off-year elections all about regret? Turnout is always low and losing candidates and their supporters have to look in the mirror Wednesday morning and consider what they could have done to get more people out to the polls.
I, for one, have done exactly zero to influence the outcome of this election, despite the fact that — as John Oliver so effectively articulated in the Last Week Tonight segment embedded above — it’s incredibly consequential, especially for those Virginians who fall into the Medicaid gap (watch the Last Week Tonight segment if you don’t know what that is). But I’m absolutely going to go vote today, and I’m writing this blog post to mitigate my own regret and make a last-minute plea for all you Virginians to go out and do the same.

See y’all party people at the polls.

Fingers crossed for VA and the others! (I watch John Oliver, too).
Frustrating result, but hopefully this will get people fired up for next year.
This was a wonderful post!
